Stanford University is along side of Silicon Valley and San Francisco. Stanford creates a certain type of graduate, alumni have progressed to mold the globe in both subtle and overt forms. The goal of this write-up is to underline these notable students and graduates in their relative areas including sport, showbiz and politics.
William Hewlett & Dave Packard
Stanford students William Hewlett and Dave Packard first designed the Hewlett Packard in a garage, later moving to Silicon Valley. The location of Stanford and Silicon Valley is no coincidence. The reason is because Stanford graduate's have been pivitol to its development and it is noted as one of the main center's of the worlds technology.
Herbert Hoover
Both President's Herbert Hoover and John F. Kennedy attended Stanford. However, you may be surprised to learn while one graduated, another dropped out. Hoover actually claimed to be Stanford's first ever student, while Kennedy dropped out in 1942. Other notable students include former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Israeli and Japanese Prime Minister's Ehud Barak and Yukio Hatoyama.
Reese Witherspoon
Reese Witherspoon leads a stellar cast of stars from the world of Showbiz who have been students at Stanford. Other famous stars include Jennifer Connolly, Ted Danson, Jack Palance and Sigourney Weaver. Interestingly however, of this list only Palance and Weaver graduated. The others left to pursue acting, or in Danson's case, transferred.
Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods is perhaps the best known athlete to have graced Stanford. Woods enrolled at Stanford in 1994 under a Golf scholarship. He left 2 years later to pursue his career in sport. Soccer player, Ryan Nelson, who currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur is another graduate. While at Stanford, Nelson was ranked MVP and left with a bachelor's degree in Political Science.
